Daniel Stoker

Daniel Stoker is the main character within this story.

A young moody teen with divorced parents, living with his dad, step mum Claire, and her daughters Tia and Cora.

He is somewhat of a loner. Although he has no friends, a boy from his school, Anthony Kwok, tries to befriend him. There are moments when we see that he wants to let his guard down and be friends with this person, but he is stubborn and doesn't trust him.

His relationship with his mother is very skewed due to her leaving when he was just 4 years old and has not been able to forgive her. This is around the time when his imaginary friend Ash started appearing to keep him company.

I believe one point of view about this story is that the ‘Underworld’ could be something Daniel has imagined as a way of dealing with the emotions caused by his mother, and coming to terms with forgiving her for leaving him so long ago.
